Blonds are out?

I've been thinking about something I'm sure other celebrity blogs have pointed out already, but I don't follow any of them closely enough to know for sure. But...
Blonds are out.
When I was in middle school, every popular female singer was blond. Britney, Christina, Jessica (Spears, Aguilera, Simpson)- all blond. Mandy Moore was blond too.
A few years later there's Hilary, Lindsey, and Ashlee (Duff, Lohan, and Simpson). Hilary's blond. Ashlee started as a blond, and has been jumping around. Lindsey started as a redhead, then blond, brunette, blond, I think in that order. But, at this point she's been consistently blond for a while.
A smidgen of a step outside the cookie-cutter and we get Pink and Avril (Lavigne, ugh, kill me now, or better yet, kill her now). Both blonds.
Even Paris and Nicole are blond. In fact, that's about the only talent they have.
But, there's a new pack of celebrities led by Miley and Vanessa (Cyrus and Hudgens) that are dark brunettes. I guess celebrity stylists can do anything, but they don't have the color hair that's a set of highlights away from being blond. They're true brunettes.
And so are all three of the girls pegged as the next 'it' girls- Selena (Gomez, Disney TV show: Wizards of Waverly Place), Demi (Lovato, Camp Rock), and Miranda (Cosgrove, Nick: iCarly).
Ashley Tisdale could be the exception that proves the rule.
Even the less famous girls of the moment like Katy Perry seem to be brunette. Who knows how her career will play out, but 'I Kissed a Girl' was in the top 10 iTunes downloads for the week, and I saw the video for that song no less than 4 times this weekend on some combination of VH1/MTV/Fuse.
So, I'm making the call- Blonds are out, brunettes are in. Or, else I just don't watch enough MTV anymore to know better.
(Of course, this doesn't consider traditional tv. Ensemble casts on broadcast networks seem specifically chosen to have two hair-colors. There's the tall, pretty blond and the shorter, and the not-supposed-to-be-but-way-prettier brunette best friend. Gossip Girls is cast with with OC clones. Maybe if they were standing next to each other I could tell Mischa Barton and Blake Lively apart, but really, if Blake's acting career doesn't go well, she could get a job as a Mischa Barton look alike. Rachel Bilson and Leighton Meester look less identical, but fill the same role.)
